There is a “curse” throughout the knitting world about never knitting for a man until you are married… Actually there is even a book called Never Knit Your Man a Sweater (Unless You’ve Got the Ring!).
One thing I said I would never do was knit for Aaron until we were married. Last year, not long before our wedding I ordered some sock yarn from KnitPicks and set it aside to cast on after our wedding. They were going to be one of his Christmas presents.
Two days after our wedding I cast on a pair of Hermione’s Every Day socks… I had done this pattern before and knew I liked it…
For Christmas he got half of a cuff of a sock with an “IOU” attached to it. The socks sat in timeout until March.
I picked them up again and realized they were way too big.
They went back into timeout.
This summer I finally picked his socks back up, DETERMINED to finish them before our first anniversary. At this point, all I had knit him was a hat… he deserved more than that.
I finally decided to try again with a ribbing pattern, 3×2 rib… 75 stitches… size 2 needles. Crossing my fingers after turning the first heel, they FIT!
So, they went back into timeout and I knit the Eunice socks for myself (no comment).
When October rolled around I realized I didn’t have much time left. I cast on the second sock and knit away. They were FINALLY finished November 3rd, just four days after our anniversary. He now has his own pair of hand knit socks.

Needless to say, the Christmas knitting list is cut WAY back this year. No more IOUs.
