Nothing Beats a Good Sunset

Sunset

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved a good sunset. Whether it’s in my backyard or the beaches of Florida or the countryside of France I will never turn down an opportunity to sit and watch the sunset. Looking back over the (many) years I’ve had a camera in my hands I have hundreds of pictures of sunsets from all over the world.

Not only is each sunset filled with thousands of colors, but each one tends to be unique. I can stand in the same spot and watch the sunset over and over again and never see the same exact one.

Whenever we travel down to Florida there is a mandatory stop at Turtle Beach to watch the sunset. In the handful of times we’ve been, no two have ever looked the same. As we sit there for 20-30 minutes and watch the sun slowly sink into the ocean, everything seems to be at peace. The animals have settled for the night, the waves are slowly crashing into the beach & the tourists are finally finding time to wind down. We could have had an incredibly busy day of shopping, exploring & visiting the beach but as soon as the sun starts to go down everything seems to relax. There is no better way to say goodnight during a fun vacation.

Turtle Beach Sunset

As our Summer/Fall nights are slowly coming to an end here in the Midwest, we have been enjoying a lot of family trips to the park. Little man and I like to take the stroller for a walk and sometimes we hop in the golf cart with Daddy to go exploring.

Living in Northwest Indiana & on central time means that until the time change, our sunset is getting closer and closer to 6pm. There isn’t a lot of time in the day once we get home to enjoy being outside so we have to hurry out the door as soon as we can. On the up side, this also means that we have had some amazing views on the way home from our walks. I love making a few stops along the way to see the different ways the sun is setting. Little man loves to look at “the orange sky” or whatever color it is that night.

Even though the sun does set every day (regardless of whether we see it or not), I always feel like it is a sign that despite any problems of the day everything will be okay tomorrow. It might be a little cliche but there is something peaceful about watching the colors change as the sun “goes to sleep” every night. In the end, we made it through another day.

Do you love watching the sunset? What is your favorite part?
