After the crazy life that has been the month of December, I kind of enjoyed the fact that New Year’s Weekend was going to be a nice long weekend with not a lot planned. I had a three and a half day weekend from work and my husband was at the tail end of his Winter break. Despite a few little issues New Year’s Weekend was a weekend spent getting our house back together after Christmas and catching up on some books.
New Year’s Eve is not a big night for us. My dad passed away on New Year’s Eve four years ago and ever since then we’ve been not necessarily in the mood to celebrate. At the last minute we decided to hang out with my brother-in-law and nieces and nephews for a few hours but we definitely did not make it until midnight. Our whole house was in bed by 11, so exciting I know.
Little Man decided we needed to kick off the New Year with some excitement. After getting too excited playing with his cousins on New Year’s Eve he managed to hurt his elbow and wound up with us getting X-rays first thing New Year’s Day. Luckily nothing was broken but we spent a good deal of the weekend hanging with an ice pack and lots of snuggles.
The most exciting thing on our schedule for the weekend was the Notre Dame vs. Ohio State Fiesta Bowl Game. Unfortunately that did not end well for Notre Dame and wound up with a house full of disappointed people. The kids had fun running around and there was buffalo chicken dip to eat so in a way it was a win. Next year Notre Dame. We came home and I decided to enjoy some hot chocolate sent from my family in France.
By Saturday it was time to get the Christmas decorations put away for another year. Little Man kept asking when Christmas is going to come again. I have a feeling we’re going to be hearing that a lot in the next year. I almost decided to give in and let him keep his tree in his room up but managed to convince him to use a lava lamp instead. Now he keeps asking if we can turn on his blue tree with popcorn in it.
It always amazes me how quickly Christmas decorations are put away after the amount of time it takes to get them out and decorate the tree. I’m sure I’ll be finding random decorations for the next few weeks but for now everything feels back to normal.
Saturday morning my husband’s DietBet kicked off so on Sunday we decided to start the day out with omelettes and smoothies. They weren’t anything special but were a nice change of pace from our usual Sunday morning waffles.
The rest of the weekend was fairly uneventful. There was dinner with friends, Indiana Basketball (Go Hoosiers), Valpo Basketball (Go Crusaders) and working my way through the wonderful yet frustrating Maze Runner book series. Laundry was done, cleaning is set, meals were prepped for the week. Suddenly it was back to reality on Monday.
How was your New Year’s Weekend? Anything exciting happen?
Sports and good; love it 🙂

Sports are always a good way to spend the day!
We had a pretty uneventful weekend too. Lots of laundry and cleaning to get ready for Monday. I’m the only one that made it until midnight on NYE. 🙂

Sometimes it’s nice to have a relaxing weekend!
I’m sorry that you have that memory to link with NYE. And then you son decides to make it “exciting.” Putting our decorations away was rather simple this year, as I only got 3-4 out, lol. Just need Alex to lift things while I still can’t!

That is nice to be able to put the decorations away quickly! While it took us a day, I was sad to see them go.
I always love putting up the Christmas decorations but taking them down is a pain. Although, you’re right it takes a lot less time.

It also makes me sad when I take them down, after a busy holiday season we have to wait another year. My little man keeps asking when Christmas is going to come again.
I’m sorry to hear about your father – that makes sense that you wouldn’t be in too much of a partying mood on that anniversary. My New Year’s weekend was pretty low key too but I liked it that way!

Low key is nice! Even if it means bed early sometimes it’s nice to relax and not have anything else to do the next day!
Aw, I’m sorry to hear about your dad. Mine passed around the holidays too. I’ve never been much of a Christmas person, so I get it. Good luck to your hubby on his diet. Diets can be a total drag, but they pay offs are worth it! 🙂

It does put a damper on the holiday’s. I find it hard to separate the two. I am excited this year to see everyone keep going in a new healthy life style though!
