I miss coffee dates with friends. It seems to be a rare treat these days to find a few hours to spend with a friend in a coffee shop. I think back to the hours on end I spent in high school and college drinking coffee, catching up on gossip doing homework and loading up with caffeine at the local coffee shops. While life is completely different now, I still like to pretend I can still have those conversations we had so often. So if we were having coffee, here is what I would tell you.
If we were having coffee I would tell you how amazing this weather has been. Seriously, 6o degrees in December is unheard of.
If we were having coffee I would tell you about the most amazing sunrises that we have been having these last few weeks. Seeing sun has been rare thanks to the rain but the sunrises have been beautiful. Yesterday we even had a beautiful double rainbow in which we could see both ends.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that despite the CRAZY last few weeks it has been fun watching a toddler get excited for Christmas. We’re still trying to get the whole “happy birthday Jesus” point of Christmas but I don’t think I’ve seen him this excited about anything before. It really will be fun next week.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I really can’t believe next week is Christmas. Yes, we have been having a lot of holiday fun and shopping for ugly Christmas sweaters, but it still amazes me how quickly it has come. Can time slow down just a tiny bit?
If we were having coffee I would tell you that my Christmas shopping is just not quite done. I have two people left to go. I’m not too worried but it would be nice to have everything done. Wrapping, well that is not even close. Can I hire out a few elves for the week?
If we were having coffee I would tell you that I realized lately how much I miss baking random treats. Between making a few rounds of muffins, cookies and breakfast treats lately I have really enjoyed trying new things. Maybe I’ll make that a New Years resolution this year, bake more. Then again, who sticks to resolutions?
If we were having coffee I would tell you I might just fall shy of my book goal this year. Although I originally set out to read 52 books this year as part of the 2015 Pop Sugar Reading Challenge, I changed my goal midway through the year to 90 books. Now I’m thinking I’ll probably end somewhere between 80 and 85 and definitely will not be completing the reading challenge. You win some, you lose some right?
If we were having coffee I would tell you about my alarm clock. Yes, my alarm clock. I have an iPod attached to my alarm clock that once was my dad’s iPod. I never cleared the songs off of it so each morning when I wake up a song that I know he liked comes on. The other day I Can Only Imagine was playing. We are coming up on four years of the day we had to say goodbye and that couldn’t be more fitting for what I needed this week.
If we were having coffee I would tell you to take a minute, step back and enjoy the next few weeks. This time of the year is stressful and it is the first time in awhile that I’ve tried to change my mindset of the season. Instead of letting the stress build up, take a few minutes to breath and look at the lights.
If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
If we were having coffee I would tell you I’m a little scared because I lost my security blanket. My job. I had whittled it down from full-time to three days a week anyway, but it is still scary to know that pay wont be there and all of a sudden my hustle just got WAY more intense….especially around the holidays. BUT if we were having coffee I would tell you that I am excited about all the things 2016 has to offer. I really like your blog. I just discovered it. Fun posts that really encourage engagement.
Hang in there! It will all work out and I hope you are able to figure out your situation soon! I’m sure there is a surprise or new adventure waiting just around the corner!
Wow you read a lot of books!!! I wish I was like that… sigh. That is awesome that you have your dad’s ipod hooked up to your alarm clock, such a nice way to think of him every day 🙂 I hope you have a Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too! I missed reading so much that I’ve enjoyed getting back into it this year!
Love this! 🙂 If we wee having coffee, I would tell you that I’m struggling to get into the Christmas spirit this year because I’ve got two teenagers for the first time who aren’t quite into our holiday traditions like they used to be. Sigh. Need to get my mojo back! P/S Just found your blog through Facebook. Are you in Indiana? You described our weather perfectly and we even had a huge double rainbow yesterday.
Oh my gosh, yes I am in Indiana! That is so funny. I’m over in Northwest Indiana and I’m going to guess you are too based on the double rainbow! I hope your teenagers get in the spirit soon!
It’s so true it would be nice to be able to just sit and talk over coffee like the good old days. But it will come full circle..one day(God willing) you ll have all the time in the world to sit and talk over coffee with friends. And you will probably talk about the good old days when you had little ones and you never had time to have coffee!
I agree! I always seem to take for granite what I have now. I love the time with my little man and family.
HA HA HA! 80 books?!?!?!?!?!? Um……….. I don’t even remember the last time I read a book! HOW SAD IS THAT?

Haha that’s how I was last year!!! It had easily been two years since I finished one!
I really enjoyed this especially since I do miss my time having coffee with friends and chatting about what was going on. If we were having coffee I would tell you that my husband just had surgery and it has been very tough to see him in discomfort. If we were having coffee I would tell you that I am so glad that we did not bake as many Christmas cookies in the past since I am really trying to make our holiday season less stressful this year. If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am so glad to be able to have girlfriend time. 🙂
Oh no! I hope your husband feels better soon. Surgery is rough, no matter what it is for! Enjoy your holiday season!
I did one year where I tried to read 52. I think I i got to 37 or something. Still the most I have ever read! I love the if we were having coffee concept.
37 is awesome still! It is so hard to find time to read these days.
What a clever post idea 🙂
I miss catching up with my friends as well.
xoxo, Jenny

It is always hard with friends so far away.
That is a lot of books! My goal is to just finish one next year. Loved reading this post. I’d give anything to sit in a coffee shop without any littles and chat with a friend for hours !
I never realized how much I would miss the coffee shop dates until they became so rare.
If we were having coffee I would tell you that you should absolutely read The Seance. Fantastic Victorian thriller!
Ohh that sounds good! I’ll have to add it to my list!
If we were having coffee I would let you know that sometimes the holiday season is bittersweet when another year passes and you miss a loved one who is no longer here (grandma, mother-in-law, father-in-law). If we were having coffee I would say that I wake up grateful each and every day for all the blessings life has shown me. And if we were having coffee I would let you know that you have a charming blog and a beautiful way of looking at life. May your holiday season be special and bright!

This would be a wonderful discussion! I completely understand the holiday’s without a loved one. It does change the tone of the holiday but brings back wonderful memories. Happy Holidays to you!!!
as a fellow working mama and bookworm, i’m so thankful i found your lovely blog. if we were having coffee in december, i would tell you that i’m so proud of myself for following through on my weekly fitness goals this year, but i still have more goals to reach in 2016, that i’m doing my best to be more present and celebratory in my marriage and I think it’s working, and that being a working mama makes me savor every second of family time with my awesome 2 1/2 year old son and my amazing husband. thank you for giving us this stage to be open and share….this has been a tremendous gift. happy holidays! xx, sylvie
That is awesome for your fitness goals!!! It sounds like our little ones are about the same age. Glad to find a new friend! Happy holidays!
80 books this year? 80 books? On top of working full time and having a blog? You are incredible, mama. Loved the style of this post. Cheers, and Happy Birthday, Jesus!
Thank you! Reading has quickly become a world to get lost in for me this year!
If we were having coffee I would tell you I’ve got one person to shop for and I never know what to get him but it isn’t as bad as how I put off wrapping!
If it makes you feel any better I have a PILE of presents that need to be wrapped still too!
I used to spend hours upon hours each week having coffee with friends… Now I have coffee with my lap top! 🙂
haha I agree! Sometimes it comes down to virtual friends!
